Peas, potatoes in by St. Paddy’s Day

To celebrate St. Paddy’s Day, some people make corned beef and hash, while others like green clothes, green brews, and green hair. At Belvedere, we recognize Ireland’s patron saint by making sure our peas and potatoes are planted by mid-March. For the third year in a row, 5th grade classes will compete to see who can grow the tallest pea and bring in the heaviest harvest. The pea contest is in the spirit of Thomas Jefferson, who held an annual “first peas to the table” competition with his neighbors. Most of the pea and potato harvest will be donated to Food for Others.
