Sad news about our trout

Screen Shot 2015-04-14 at 10.53.45 AMWe take a moment from our normally buoyant blog posts to announce that we have pulled the plug on the trout raising project for this year. Something found its way into the tank – virus, bacteria, a chemical we don’t test for – and killed all the fish at once. Our tank equipment was working and our water chemical tests were spot on. We added dechlorinator and good bacteria and let the tank sit for a couple of weeks. The Trout Unlimited guys had come by a couple of times and said the tank looked great. They brought us 60 fingerlings. In less than 24 hours, they all were dead. Ms. Gump and I decided against killing more trout. We’ll scrub and bleach every millimeter of our equipment and tank, then try again next year.

Oh, and don’t worry about the students. When we told them that the fish had died, they started squabbling over who got to help empty the tank.
