Meet Bella of Belvedere in our Rottin’ Garden (and her little dog, too!)

IMG_1317Meet Bella, the new guardian of our Rottin’ Garden. Fifth-graders used a foil pie plate, old toddler sunglasses, ribbon, plastic bags, ripped jeans, and a bird seed bag to make Bella. They also provided her with canine companionship: her own Belvedere bulldog, who wants to be a junkyard dog when s/he grows up.

The Rottin’ Garden is a place to study weathering and decomposition. Next up for the garden: edging with an old garden hose and signs predicting how the items will fall apart. See below for more photos on how the students put Bella together.

While the Rottin’ Garden scene was being set, other students weeded the courtyard and wheeled leaf mulch from the front of the school, through the halls and out to the raised beds. THANK YOU to everyone!
