5th graders harvest spring onions, garlic

Mrs. Holt’s fifth-graders dug up one spring onion and one spring garlic to see how the bulbs they planted last fall were faring. Because it’s still early in the growing season, the garlic scent wasn’t very strong and the bulb looked more like an onion; many fifth-graders thought it was an onion. The plan is to cook the plants next week to try out their taste. After pulling out the garlic and onions, the class planted watermelon, radish and sunflower seeds.
